Spread the love

This is the fifth week in my Fifty questions in 50 weeks project. The questions were on a site that I found called Marc and Angel Hack Life

Week 5 Question: What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?

This is a tough question in that there are several things that I would like to change about the world. Who doesn’t want a world in which we can feel safe anywhere we go and there is no fighting between countries or people, no slavery, no crimes against humanity, etc. However, the one thing that I would change the most is actually not within the world per se, but within our own country. I would change to make the emphasis on understanding and respect and away from misunderstanding and a complete lack of respect. This post may be a bit controversial, but these are my opinions and we are all allowed our opinions.

What do I mean by understanding and respect? I mean understanding that all people are different, with different beliefs and ideals and no one’s belief/ideals is more important than someone else’s. Do I believe all people should be treated equally regardless of religion, sexual orientation, and immigration status? Your darn right I do! It is none of my business who you choose to love, but I believe that everyone should be afforded the same rights – in particular marriage. If marriage was just a religious institution, then sure your religion could choose to prevent same sex couples from getting married. However, marriage is also a civil institution and from that aspect, no one has the right to deny anyone from the civil benefits of marriage including tax status, health decisions, etc.

All people deserve to have respect regardless of religion, race, or sexual orientation. It is very frustrating to me to log on to Facebook and see people “bashing” others for no other reason than they are a different religion than them, race, culture, or sexual orientation. What happened to love and respect towards others? What happened to treating others as you would want to be treated? It seems those morals go out of the window when the other person is of a certain religion, certain sexual orientation, certain culture or race.

What are your thoughts? What’s one thing you would change in this world if you could?
