Spread the love

When I began this site several years ago, it was due to my taking a detour in my life because of Rheumatoid Arthritis. In the last year and a half, I took a few more detours. One in particular has changed who I am and the entire direction of my life. I got a divorce. It was something I swore I never would do growing up and as an adult, but I was left with no other choice. I was a child of divorce myself and I never wanted to do that to my children.

However, when you are trying everything to save a situation when the other person has no interest of remaining, you get to a point where you give up on them. That is exactly what I did! There are days when I regard it as one of the BEST detours of my life. I have finally regained my sense of self and grown so much during the entire process. I’m stronger, I’m smarter, and I’m much happier as a result. I have an awesome relationship with my kids and we are enjoying being a family of three. They are growing so much as children and people through all of this and have had the best school year and so far summer that they have ever had.

It’s funny, because one insult that was hurled my way was “You had to be the hero” referring to leaving with the kids. It wasn’t an insult at all. It was actually true and a compliment. I am a hero to my children for getting them into a safer, more stable, more peaceful household where they have friends to play with for the first time in their lives. They are participating in the sports they love and attended camp this summer and have had a blast.

This detour was not one that I would have chosen for me and my children until I had no other choice, but it has been the best decision of my life. Everyone that knows me personally has acknowledged what a great thing that has occurred because of the divorce and how much happier and stronger I am because of it. You know, it’s honestly something I wish I had done sooner instead of suffering in a bad situation and subjecting my children to that situation for as long as I did.

So, this detour has led me to discover my true passion which is to help other Mom’s going through things that seem to be impossible. Whether that be leaving a bad relationship, learning to be a single Mom, feeding their family healthier foods, or coping with an auto immune condition. New recipes and food ideas will continue to be posted here on Detours in Life. However, in the coming months, I’ll be launching a companion site to Detours in Life especially for Mom’s. The new site will be one with great information and resources as well as a community for Mom’s to support each other through the trials and detours that we all face in life. I will provide you with more of my story as well as ways that I have coped and gotten through the challenges of becoming a single Mom and a single Mom with an auto immune condition.

I hope you will join me in my new detours and adventures!
